What's New in Version 3
Version 3 of TexToys was released
in June 2004, and updated to v3.1 in December.
It includes the following new features:
- Functions for inserting pictures, links, tables
and media objects into exercises.
- Optional "Solution" buttons for both types
of exercise.
- Time limits including seconds, not just whole
minutes.
- WebRhubarb now posts detailed results, including
wrong answers, to hotpotatoes.net
server.
- Source file compatibility with Hot Potatoes
(so that core JavaScript and HTML code can be
shared).
- Variable number of choices in Sequitur exercises.
- Interface translation. You can now translate
the interface of the programs into another language.
- Dublin Core Metadata. Descriptive metadata
can now be added to exercises.
- Spellchecking, using MSWord's spellchecker
(if Word is installed).
- Hot Potatoes Masher integration (so TexToys
exercises can be included in Masher units, and
automatically built by the Masher).
- Custom configuration (user strings) functionality.
You can now make source file modifications through
settings in the configuration screen.
- Multiple-word input in Rhubarb exercises.
Students can now type a sequence of words and
check them all at once.
The following features were
introduced in version 2.1 of TexToys, released
in October 2002:
- New HTML export formats which take advantage
of new browser capabilities;
- Full unicode compatibility, allowing unlimited
mixing of languages and scripts.
New features in v2.0 (released
early 2002) are:
- Capability of uploading exercises automatically
from inside the applications directly to the
hotpotatoes.net
server (see Hosting)
- New output formats - now you have a choice
of two Web page formats, one for old browsers
and one for modern ones, with improved features
in both.
- Improved configuration of navigation buttons
and exercise appearance settings, bringing TexToys
into line with Hot Potatoes.
- Timers - time limits can now be set for the
exercises.
- A simplified main interface for both applications,
with standard Windows toolbar.
- TexToys files are now stored in XML format
for improved compatibilty with other systems.
- Unicode compatibility - you can now use any
Unicode character in a TexToys exercise.
- Automatic Unicode keyboard generation inside
the exercise - yours students can type in any
lanaguage by just clicking the buttons.
