Markin in Different Languages

The latest Markin version, v3.1, comes complete with installation and language options for German, French, Spanish, Italian, Danish and Czech as well as English. These options provide full translations of the program menus, commands and dialog boxes.

Ever since version 2.1, Markin has included a built-in feature allowing you to translate the program's menus and messages. This means that the whole program can be translated into any language which uses a standard Windows character system, and the translation can be saved and shared with other users via a Markin Interface File (MIF File) - see below.

(Please note that it is not currently possible to provide translations of the program in Japanese or other languages which do not use Roman characters.)

In Markin's Tools menu, there is a Translate the Markin Interface command, which provides access to the translation screen. Once in this screen, the program displays a list of all the commands, labels and other bits of text within the program (it's a long list!), and allows you to enter a translation for each.

There is a comprehensive Help screen to guide you through producing a translation (NB this help screen is only available in English).

Translated versions of the program are saved in special files called Markin Interface Files, which use the file suffix .MIF. You can save your own translation as a .MIF file, and you can also load a .MIF file created by someone else. This means that even if you cannot translate the program yourself, you can easily use a translated version which has been provided by someone else, or share your translated version with other users in your school or college.

If you have created a MIF file for your language, and you would like to share it with other Markin users in your country or elsewhere, please send us the file by email. Users whose MIF files are published on this page will be offered free Markin upgrades.

These are the MIF files which accompany the main Markin v3.1 release - they are suitable for all versions of Markin from v3.0 upwards. You can download them separately by clicking the download links, or you can download them as part of the main Markin installation program - see the download page.
