Free Programs Page

This page contains details and downloads of some programs and other materials which we provide free of charge. Some of these programs are quite old, and were originally written to work in Windows 3.x.

Please note that we may not be able to provide much assistance with the programs shown from this page if you have difficulties with them. As always we will do our best to help, but these are "legacy" programs which were not designed to work with the latest systems and software, and using them may give unexpected results.

For details of our other products, including our latest fully supported packages, please see the software index page.

Clozemaker

by Martin Holmes

"Cloze" exercises require the student to study a piece of text with some words omitted, and insert words in the gaps so that the text makes sense.

The ClozeMaker program allows language teachers to design and construct Cloze exercises for use in a classroom or open learning environment. The program features separate Teacher and Student areas, with access to the Teacher area controlled by a password.

This file you can download below is called CLOZE11.EXE, and it is a self-extracting archive of the ClozeMaker program. The program runs under Microsoft Windows 3.x and Windows 95.

Choices

Quiz tests are an essential part of almost all teaching environments. "Choices" is a simple program which allows the teacher to build mutiple-choice quizzes in a password-protected area. These quizzes can then be loaded and completed by the student, and a score is given when the quiz is complete.

Each question has four alternative answers, and each answer has an associated "hint", When the student selects one of the four answers to a question, the hint is displayed on the screen.
